2007 Outstanding Attorney
Speech presented by Cherrie Schlauger at June 12, 2007 CFSC Awards banquet
The Outstanding Attorney award in the last several years has been a difficult category to generate competition. Last year we decided not to award this category and, in response, received several comments to bring it back. We did and had a great response. Traditionally it’s a category we have to beg for nominations. This year, the first five nominations received were for Outstanding Attorney.
This year’s recipient received two nominations, each from different organizations. She has excellent research, analytical, and judgment skills. Even with a heavy caseload, she handles each case as though it is her only case. She realizes the communication with the NCP forms his or her perception of child support and effects whether the NCP becomes a consistent payor. She encourages CPs to behave in a manner that benefits the children. She also explains the limitations of CSE and the Department’s goal of not getting the highest order but a realistic order which will result in a reliable income. She currently serves on the Legislative Sub-Committee with a persistent voice of reason and careful consideration. She also is on the Doc-Gen committee and has helped put together this conference.
The Colorado Family Support Council is pleased to recognize this year’s Outstanding Attorney,
Lara Delka, Denver County.
