A Letter From the President
By Dee Price-Sanders

YeeHaw!!!!  It's time to start shining your boots,
dusting off your hats and practicing your 2-step in preparation for the 2005 CFSC conference "Cowboy Up For Kids".

Work has been underway by your conference planners for the last several months now and I guarantee you will not be disappointed as we once again visit beautiful Steamboat Springs.  The conference will of course be filled with outstanding sessions to fill your minds, amazing events to keep you entertained and enough food and drink to satisfy one and all.

I don't want to give it all away yet, however I will tell you that you might want to look at the calendar and plan ahead to bring your families as the conference and the area offer something for everyone to enjoy in the true spirit of the west.   Our conference dates are June 5th thru 8th, 2005.  The registration costs will not be increased from last year and the hotel has arranged room rates to remain the same as well so that everyone will have an opportunity to join us.

Watch for upcoming editions of the In-Basket for more details...mark your calendars and get ready to Cowboy Up.  YeeHaw!!!

Let's Get Excited!
By Joanne Sprouse

Hello everyone, from your President Elect, Joanne Sprouse. I can’t tell you how excited I am about how our CFSC conference is developing.  It is truly shaping up to be one of the best yet.  We have selected “Cowboy Up For Kids” as our conference theme, and as you can imagine we are creating some entertaining plans to go along with this idea such as a western barbecue for our banquet night, Rodeo Night for entertainment evening, and a special hospitality suite for Sunday night (more details to follow as things develop).

All of the agenda chairs have been working hard to try and have new and interesting topics for their areas.  Look for more agenda information in the next In-Basket.  So please be sure and mark you calendars early, this conference is turning into one that you will just not want to miss!

We're Wired!
By Deb Andersen

The Colorado Family Support Council has a new website.   Thanks to Jim Butler from PSI who is serving on the Board this year as our Historian.  He has contributed a lot of time and energy to update our website in order to offer you a truly interactive surfing experience.

The site offers a great deal of information about the Colorado Family Support Registry including our history, mission, and bylaws.  There are also links for conference information with directions to the facility and suggestions for a successful stay.  Jim plans to offer an interactive agenda that will allow you to click on a session and go to the description and the speaker bio.   Watch for this and may other updates.

We urge you to visit us at www.cfscinc.org and see what it's all about.  Watch for further updates throughout the year as Jim continues to bring us up to speed on the information super-highway.

Looking For Charity
By Lisa Gonzales

The Donations and Give-a–ways committee is accepting nominations for next year’s charity or charities to receive the money raised at the 2005 conference.  Please get your nominations in by October 28, 2004.  Your nomination needs to include:  the name of the organization, their mission statement, the area they serve and administrative costs.  Please submit your nominations to Karla Baken, Family Support Division, 7305 S. Potomac St., Suite 100, Centennial, CO 80112, fax (720)874-8631, or e-mail her at kbaken@da18.state.co.us

Thanks to all your hard work, we raised $6138.84 at this year’s conference and the money was split between two charities!  The amount and quality of baskets we received this year was absolutely extraordinary.  Your hard work was evident in all the baskets.  It is never too early to start planning for next year.

We still have lots of koozies as well as black and natural denim shirts left from this year’s booth.  If you would like to purchase anything please contact me or any CFSC board member and we would be glad to get it to you.

The Donations and Give-a-way committee would like your suggestions, ideas and input as to what you would like to see at the CFSC Booth in 2005 and the price range that you would like to see

Thoughts From The Editor
By Deb Andersen

Welcome back to another edition of The In-Basket.  It's hard to believe that we are starting another year of planning the CFSC training conference.  It seems that just yesterday I was wondering how I wound up becoming President of this fine organization!

I have been fortunate enough to serve on this board since June 2000.  Each year I learn something new, meet someone new, or try something new.  Each year I enjoy it a little more.  I truly appreciate the opportunities I have been given to serve my fellow child support experts in this way.  I want to take this opportunity to thank you all one more time for the wonderful experiences I have had, and for making the past year so terrific.  No matter how I ended up there, I really enjoyed serving you last year.

I believe that those of us who work in this field are cut from a different cloth than most.  We are willing to come in each day and work to make the lives of other people's children better.  We sometimes (often) take the brunt of the anger, bitterness and frustration of strangers just because we are doing our jobs.  Sometimes we get a thank you, but not often enough.

The CFSC board wants to thank each of you for all that you do for the kids.  We hope that the annual training conferences offer what you need to continue your good work.  You are the best.

Win $50 for your artistic talents!

A Roll Call To Remember
By Karla Baken

Each year at the conference Opening Session we conduct Roll Call which includes all of our counties, the state office, federal office and the Family Support Registry.

Go to fullsize imageThis year we would like to spice it up a bit.  We are asking each county as well as the state, the feds and the FSR, to submit a photo to represent yourselves for the roll call.

Please submit your photo to Dee Price-Sanders via email to dee.pricesanders@state.co.us  If you cannot send a digital or soft copy of your photo please contact Dee for other alternatives.  She will accept an actual photo, but it will cost you a quarter. Go to fullsize image

The photos can be funny or serious but must be in keeping with our theme Cowboy Up For The Kids.  Be creative, use your imagination!
